Mission: a network for universities
CoNISMa implements and other scientific and applied activities in the field of Marine Sciences. The Consortium was established to promote collaboration not only between member universities, but also between universities, public and private national and international research organisations, local and regional authorities, and production facilities. It is structured into thematic networks equipped with facilities and instruments capable of bringing together expertise on specific issues, creating significant added value compared to the capacity of individuals. This network organisation makes CoNISMa an indispensable tool for making the most of different skills through an interconnected system, stimulate discussion and coordination between universities on aspects of particular interest for the development of knowledge, innovation and technology transfer and, more generally, for the development of the country’s competitiveness on the international stage.
The organisational structure of the CoNISMa provides researchers with maximum freedom to express their full potential, providing them with logistical tools that allow easy access to the resources necessary to carry out their activities. The topics covered by Marine Sciences enable activities ranging from basic research (biodiversity, ecosystems, physical systems, extreme environments, climate change) to applied research (fishing, aquaculture, maritime works) by development (biotechnology, instrumental technological innovation), to technology transfer (reproduction and diets for fish species, bioremediation, planting of marine plant species, energy production from the sea), to decision support (integrated coastal zone management, marine strategy).
